Listen to this story:

With its tranquil atmosphere, resort-level amenities, and exceptional quality of life, Indian Wells enjoys a reputation as one of the premier residential and vacation destinations in the United States. Visionary planning and leadership have shaped a community that blends luxury with world-class experiences.

The legion of fans who converge on the Indian Wells Tennis Garden each spring would have to agree the BNP Paribas Open ranks as one of those world-class experiences. In March 2025, a record-setting 504,268 spectators — including celebrities such as Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner — watched the world’s top-ranked tennis players compete for approximately $19 million in prize money. With most attendees traveling from outside the region, the event generates more than  $850 million annually in economic impact for the local economy.

Yet even as tennis scores and celebrity sightings feed social media each spring, another sport — the one that helped put Indian Wells on the map — continues to thrive. Golf, the city’s original claim to fame, draws its share of fans, players, and prestige. In October, the LPGA Epson Tour Championship returns to Indian Wells Golf Resort — the second consecutive year the resort’s award-winning Celebrity Course is hosting the qualifying season finale where LPGA amateurs can earn their card.

First-Class Hospitality

Indian Wells continues to surprise and delight the many discerning visitors who return time and again for business and leisure. The sprawling campus that encompasses the Indian Wells Golf Resort, Grand Hyatt Indian Wells Resort & Villas, and Renaissance Esmeralda Resort & Spa is known for its thoughtful layout, clear signage, and walkability. Across the street, the Tommy Bahama Miramonte Resort & Spa and the Indian Wells Resort Hotel complete a welcoming quadrangle of exceptional accommodations, each offering its own distinctive blend of style, comfort, and service. The major resorts offer premier spa facilities and amenities. USA Today rated the Grand Hyatt’s pool No. 9 in the United States. The Renaissance Esmeralda offers air compression therapy; Sands Hotel & Spa features an award-winning restaurant, The Pink Cabana; and Tommy Bahama Miramonte highlights transcendent sound baths and outdoor yoga classes on the event lawn. It’s easy to see why visitors rejuvenate in Indian Wells. Looking ahead, the city is reviewing plans for a wellness sanctuary slated to occupy a 15-acre site at the corner of Highway 111 and Miles Avenue.  The planned five-star Cocun Wellness Resort will offer state-of-the-art health treatments, a resort hotel with detached bungalows, condominium buildings with luxury villas, a resort-style clubhouse, and a public/private park. Meanwhile, the Indian Wells restaurant scene continues to heat up with standout culinary offerings such as Kestrel: A Richard Blais Kitchen + Lounge. Perched atop the Indian Wells Golf Resort, Kestrel is the brainchild of Top Chef All-Stars winner Richard Blais. Mere steps away, fellow Top Chef alum Angelo Sosa pays homage to the beauty of the Southwest’s stories, land, and farmers through distinctive dining experiences at two venues — Tía Carmen and Carmocha — both located within the Grand Hyatt Indian Wells Resort & Villas.

The City’s depth of dining and nightlife options fuels day-to-night itineraries. Visitors might brunch at The Blushing Peony, enjoy a Mediterranean-inspired lunch at The Pink Cabana, savor sushi at Nobu come evening, and wind down with cocktails and live music at Vicky’s of Santa Fe, which in season features revered local musician John Stanley King, or The Nest, a popular and energetic venue known for its food, fun, and line out the door on weekends. Whether refined, relaxed, or somewhere in between, the Indian Wells culinary collection continues to expand and draw food lovers from across the region and around the globe.

Elevated Events and Attractions

There’s always something new to discover in Indian Wells. While cities to the west garner attention for some of the best local examples of midcentury modern architecture, the Manitou Springs neighborhood inside the historic Indian Wells Country Club holds its own set of gems. Modernism Week 2025 featured a dedicated tour to delve into the storied and celebrity-steeped history of these particular homes.

Residents and visitors always clear their calendars for the Taste of Tennis, a perfect pairing for a city where tennis and culinary excellence reign supreme. Held at the Grand Hyatt Indian Wells Resort & Villas, the event treats guests to cuisine from top Coachella Valley chefs, live entertainment, and the opportunity to meet some of sport’s biggest names in tennis.

Desert Town Hall, one of the top speaker series in the nation, stands out among Indian Wells’ hottest tickets, featuring world-class speakers as well as youth education. Held at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort & Spa, the series attracts  influential personalities from around the world, creating lifetime memories for all those who attend.

Meanwhile, the Indian Wells Tennis Garden delivers far more than championship matches each spring. Open year-round, the venue boasts a thriving membership and regularly hosts junior and collegiate tournaments as well as car shows and, of course, world-class dining at Nobu.

From four top-tier resorts and championship golf to the renowned tennis garden, a flourishing culinary scene plus a rich calendar of cultural and community events, Indian Wells makes a lasting impression. As the community looks to the future — with new affordable housing planned for the area around Miles Avenue and Warner Trail — its commitment to thoughtfully evolving remains clear. Small but mighty, this is one city that proves time and again that all roads lead to Indian Wells.

Safety and Sustainability

Noted for its well-maintained infrastructure, Indian Wells is committed to continually enhancing quality of life for residents and visitors. The recently launched Safer Streets Indian Wells initiative, for example, aims to improve conditions for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists by reducing speed, improving mobility, and creating a safer environment.

Meanwhile, the City’s Energy Efficiency Project continues to make strides. Solar panels have been installed at Indian Wells Golf Resort and City Hall, where additional upgrades include new EV charging stations, expanded energy storage capabilities, and an upgraded HVAC system. The project is expected to generate cost savings of approximately $12 million over its first 20 years.
