Your Smile — Their Specialty

The doctors at Desert Dental Specialty Group understand the importance of a healthy, attractive, and long-lasting smile. It is for this reason that they, as specialists, work together using the most advanced dental technology for each individual need.

Desert Dental Specialty Group, under the direction of Joshua W. Cartter, DDS, makes good on the promise of long-term smile transformation. The practice provides everything from teeth whitening and simple fillings to a wide range of cosmetic procedures, dental implants, and complex full-mouth restorations. Virtually any procedure to restore function, health, and aesthetics, whether large or small, is provided at the Palm Desert facility.

“This is a group of specialists and general restorative doctors,” Dr. Cartter says.  “Having the specialists most needed for adult dentistry in one office gives our patients the advantage of a team that is well coordinated and dedicated to creating the best outcome  for each individual. We understand that time is a precious commodity for everyone, and our team approach makes dental care far more convenient for our patients. With the valley’s top laboratory literally next door, many issues can be addressed immediately.”

Desert Dental Specialty Group is the only valley office with highly trained specialists in prosthodontics, periodontics, and endodontics. The teamwork between doctors cannot be duplicated elsewhere.

“Prosthodontists are trained in the care of elderly patients, patients with TMD (TMJ pain) headaches, and patients with complex dental problems in need of treatments such as implant restoration and dental fabrication,” Dr. Cartter says. “Prosthodontists are trained in what I call ‘predicting the future.’ We have a greater responsibility to choose the right technique and materials for every patient so that the restorations and treatment provided have the greatest chance for long-term service through the years.”

Prosthodontists are experts in the restoration and replacement of teeth — they make smiles look beautiful and function properly. Following completion of  four years of dental school, prosthodontists receive an additional three years of specialized training in an American Dental Association (ADA) accredited graduate program.

Replacing Lost Teeth and Perfecting  a Natural Smile

Loss of natural teeth, regardless of the cause, can be traumatic and adversely affect your outlook on life. Fortunately, today there are many options for dental restorations and improvement of appearance. Dental implant procedures can be performed rapidly and without discomfort. Implants have become a popular alternative to dentures or partials because they have the look, feel, and function of perfect natural teeth and are extremely durable.

One of the dental profession’s newest and most innovative technologies, and one that is used at Desert Dental Specialty Group, is Cone Beam CT Imaging, which allows a three-dimensional view of the mouth for precise implant placement, pre-surgical assessment of dental structures, endodontic treatment planning, and detection of oral lesions
and cancers. The doctors work closely with the adjacent dental laboratory using CAD-CAM technology to fabricate restorations, crowns, and inlays from solid porcelain blocks. Guided by computer, implant restorations are milled from solid titanium blocks, creating very strong, extremely accurate restorations that will last for a long time.

Prosthodontists working with knowledgeable dental technicians select from the many different dental porcelains so that every patient receives the right choice for a perfect smile.

Complex Care Management

Dental situations that are the result of extensive tooth loss due to accidents, gum disease, genetic defects, or other reasons benefit greatly from the multidisciplinary approach at Desert Dental Specialty Group. Doctors working closely together in one facility save patients time, travel, and the cost of several visits at multiple offices. Periodontists treat gum disease and perform periodontal cosmetic surgery, including placement of dental implants. Endodontists are trained in root canal treatment and surgery. Both are part of the team and work in constant communication with the lead restorative doctors.

Bryce Ashton, DDS, general dentist.

“Our office has worked with the same dental technicians for over 20 years,” Dr. Cartter says. “Having the technicians in the same building provides the quickest service available in the entire valley.  Our association allows us to make immediate repairs to dentures and broken dental restorations and to rapidly manufacture temporary solutions for lost or fractured teeth.”

The doctors at Desert Dental Specialty Group are members of the American Dental Association and the California Dental Association. Dr. Cartter is also a member of the American College of Prosthodontists and the Academy of Osseointegration. Dr. Yen Le attended the University of California, Los Angeles School of Dentistry and completed her residency at the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, with special interests in implant dentistry, soft tissue grafting, and osseous surgery. Dr. Bryce Ashton is a member of Tri-County Dental Society.
