This 12-mile trek (one way) links Desert Hot Springs to Joshua Tree National Park, where hikers recommend arranging a car for the journey home. Beginning at a trailhead on Long Canyon Road, about a mile north of Hacienda Avenue, the route ascends approximately 1,200 feet into the High Desert. While the overall difficulty level is moderate, certain sections of the hike can be more challenging due to soft sand. The views make it all worth it. Bring plenty of water, and remember your camera to snap photos of the Joshua trees, cholla, and barrel cactuses along the way. Dogs are not permitted on this trail.
