Once among the most celebrated public golf courses in the Coachella Valley, Trilogy Golf Club at La Quinta, host of the legendary Skins Game from 2003 to 2006, is open once again — and better than ever.
In early 2024, the residents of Trilogy at La Quinta voted overwhelmingly to purchase the 229-acre golf course, clubhouse, and restaurant. Soon after, they launched a sweeping, multimillion-dollar campaign to renovate and modernize the facilities and return the club to its former glory. Trilogy Golf Club at La Quinta reopened to public play Dec. 16, and the results are spectacular.
“We’ve been dreaming of this day for a long time,” says Mark Reider, president of the Trilogy at La Quinta Master Association board of directors. “The homeowners, along with everyone involved in the club’s restoration, have poured their hearts into this project, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the result. This is truly a special golf club, and we’re eager to share it with our neighbors and golf travelers from around the world.”
At its peak, Trilogy Golf Club at La Quinta attracted the game’s biggest stars, including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Fred Couples, and Annika Sorenstam. However, the club fell on hard times after an ownership change, closing in 2022.
Now, with Trilogy residents in charge and the club under new management, Trilogy Golf Club at La Quinta aims to reclaim its must-play status in the Coachella Valley.
The renovation was overseen by architect Gary Brawley, who was part of Gary Panks’ original design team. Under his direction, several bunkers were reshaped, and the bunker noses were lowered to enhance playability. All bunkers were completely rebuilt with new drainage and a new 50/50 blend of Emerald sand. All the greens were regrassed and the collars resodded. Extensive work to the irrigation system throughout the course will ensure players experience exceptional conditions. As a final surprise, the club restored the “Skins Tees,” allowing golfers the ability to play the course the way Tiger, Phil, and the other PGA TOUR stars did during its heyday.
In addition to the golf course work, the Trilogy Golf Club at La Quinta is putting the final touches on renovations to its clubhouse and signature restaurant. The design and décor will be heavily influenced by the Coachella Valley’s famed midcentury modern aesthetic with thoughtfully planned gathering spaces filled with natural light and beauty. The atmosphere will be welcoming and friendly with a relaxed sophistication, and the menu will focus on quality classic fare with inventive touches and craft cocktails and beverages.
