A short drive from downtown Palm Springs, a beautiful oasis rises from the San Jacinto foothills.
The Indian Canyons, the ancestral home of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, contains more than 60 miles of hiking and walking trails through pristine scenery. From rock formations to waterfalls and more than 150 species of plants, including the Washingtonia filifera (also known as the California fan palm), the area’s beauty draws people from around the world to experience its tranquil surroundings.
Bighorn sheep roam throughout the Indian Canyons.
The Indian Canyons comprise Palm, Andreas, and Murray canyons, each a great experience for the adventurous hiker. At 15 miles long, Palm Canyon is the world’s largest natural grouping of Washingtonia filifera. Andreas Canyon’s one-mile looping hike along Andreas Creek and through the lush palm oasis is great for beginning hikers. Hiking and wildlife such as the Peninsular bighorn sheep abound throughout the canyons.
