Once upon a time, soon-to-be-weds were forced to trek out of town to find the perfect ceremonial looks. While fine suits and tuxedos tend to be easier to come by, designer wedding dresses were seemingly nonexistent in Greater Palm Springs until Summer Colony Living in Palm Desert opened its bridal boutique. Owner Debra Carrington discusses the offerings.
Designer dresses: “We love being a bridal salon that offers iconic national brands like Vera Wang and Reem Acra while also being able to provide a platform for emerging designers like Guild of Hands or Andrew Kwon.”
2024 trends: “Simple and elegant. Some brides are going with neutral colors and more casual silhouettes like short dresses or pantsuits. Our customers are independent thinkers who move to their own beat, so our bespoke business helps them create the perfect look.”

Preparing for your first visit: “Enjoy the process and don’t overthink it! Save gas and time by researching designers. For inspiration, look at fashion magazines, Google search, and wedding platforms. Shopping locally is much easier for fittings.”
How to approach alterations: “I suggest getting alterations at your target weight and depth and then again as close to the date of the ceremony as possible. All of our alterations are done in-house for our clients as our dresses are primarily custom.”
