As a child, Caleb Cruz couldn’t bear to see an animal suffer and wished she could do something to help. That instinct to care for vulnerable creatures propelled her into a career in veterinary medicine 17 years ago and remains at the heart of  her work. She owns The Cruz’n Vet Tech, a mobile service that delivers care where pets feel safest — at home.

Cruz’s work bridges the gap between grooming and veterinary care, administering prescribed medications, providing ear cleanings and nail trims, and even transporting animals to the vet for clients who can’t manage it themselves. She donates about half of her services to local animal sanctuaries and rescues, where the need is especially urgent. “The shelters are just filling up way too quickly,” she says. “It’s so sad … I feel very strongly about helping as much as I can.”

Striking out on her own was both a challenge and a calling. “I want people to know that there is help out there,” Cruz says. Each visit is a chance to make a difference, one house call at a time.
