Hike of the Month: Mission Creek Preserve Trail

The Mission Creek Preserve Trail follows the creek past old stone structures, now used as picnic spots, and into a natural oasis. The easy 1.6-mile route gains only about 325 feet. Section 14 Exhibition Opens at Agua Caliente Cultural Museum

A powerful exhibition at the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum sheds new light on the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians’ epic battle to retain and develop a controversial square mile of land in the center of downtown Palm Springs. In Section 14 The Untold Story, tribal elders and leaders share their perspectives on this precious slice of the Agua Caliente Indian Reservation, established by executive order in 1876. The federal government divided the tribe’s land into a checkerboard and gave every other square-mile section to the Southern Pacific Railroad to encourage development. Section 14, stretching from East Alejo to East Ramon roads between Indian Canyon Drive and South Sunrise Way, includes the sacred Agua Caliente Hot Mineral Spring, which has provided the tribe with water for drinking, bathing, and healing for thousands of years.
