When students have the right opportunities, they rise to the occasion. At Desert Hot Springs High School, Think Together partnered with its fashion design class to give teens the chance to present their creations at Fashion Week El Paseo, one of the largest fashion events on the West Coast. For many of these students, seeing their creativity celebrated on such a grand stage built confidence, motivation, and a vision for the future.
This is just one example of how Think Together supports students across the Coachella Valley and beyond. Every day, Think Together helps young people stay engaged in school and prepares students for college and careers. Whether it’s through enrichment in the arts, STEM, or leadership programs, the goal is the same: to help students discover their passions, believe in their potential, and finish school ready for all life options available to them.
For students like Aubrey, a high school senior who participated in the fashion project, the impact was deeply personal. “The fashion class has inspired me to be more creative and more open with myself,” she says. “Fashion is all kinds of designs, so when I have to create my own sketch, I know I can do it my way.”
With the help of Think Together, students from Desert Hot Springs High School learn the basics of fashion design, from drawing croquis and mocking them up on dress forms to sewing and styling their creations for the runway.
Seventh grader Caylynn, who designed jewelry to complement the high schoolers’ looks, adds, “I love wearing jewelry, so I think it’d be interesting to make some of my own.” These moments of discovery extend beyond the classroom, inspiring new outlooks on career paths and reimagining how school can provide the foundation for lifelong learning.
