All of their wood furniture is made locally and skillfully handsewn by master craftsmen and artisans, some of whom have been with the company for up to 40 years.
Sofa U Love started creating furniture for movie studios including Warner Bros. and Paramount, becoming adept at quickly turning around custom pieces — a tradition that continues. “If you have three or four weeks, we can make anything you can dream of,” says Vincent Karapetian, owner of the business his father, Johnny, started more than half a century ago.
Karapetian believes human interaction is key when making furniture selections. Being able to touch and feel showroom samples and consulting with an experienced and knowledgeable sales associate are essential components of a successful shopping experience.
At the Palm Desert store on Highway 111, seasoned designer and project manager Donanne Bruce helps guide customers in their decision-making. Donanne offers visits to a customer’s home or office to assess the overall color palette and help define the space.
“Because of my background and experience,” says the UCLA-educated designer, “I can help clients visualize what they want. I’ll create a mood board to help them pull everything together — ideas that might not even have occurred to them when they first came in to buy an individual piece. It’s gratifying to see the result come to life.”
At Sofa U Love, no furniture project is too big or small. For customers with no time to wait, it’s even possible to buy the showroom samples because the company is its own manufacturer. Meanwhile, in addition to introducing new furniture styles, Sofa U Love is presently curating a Desert Collection line for the Palm Desert showroom featuring specific fabrics, colors, and textures that work well in this environment.
