Named Best Brunch in Cathedral City in this year’s Best of the Best competition, Brunch 101 offers a laid-back, no-rules approach to brunch. With a creative menu and easygoing vibe, Brunch 101 has quickly become a local favorite.

We spoke with owner Natasha Garcia to learn more about the brunch hot spot.

Why create a brunch-only concept?

NATASHA GARCIA: We worked together for 14 years as servers and bartenders all around the valley, and our favorite time has always been brunch. Brunch is versatile. It could be a fancy day out, or super casual, and we loved that idea, and how creative we could be. When we started [in 2023], we worried about being open such limited hours. But we realized how trendy brunch had become, and that kind of exploded, especially in Cathedral City.

How did you develop the menu?

NG: We put all our favorite things on the menu. The menu definitely screams “brunch,” but we did pull themes from different places. We have chilaquiles, a traditional Mexican dish. We also have classic American-style dishes, like biscuits and gravy, but they’re more like a slider, so it’s creative. And we have a lot of vegan and gluten-free options.

Which dishes are most popular?

NG: Our chilaquiles, our SoCal burrito, and the ahi salad. We make all our dressings in-house.

What was your design inspiration?

NG: We love the desert. We wanted something that represented the desert but also represented brunch, and that’s light, natural colors — easy on the eye.

What’s the Brunch 101 experience?

NG: Whatever anyone wants to experience that day — that’s what brunch is. You can celebrate a birthday and it’s a lively, fun time. We also have people who come in once a week to sit on the patio with their dog and relax. During the weekend, it’s a lot of big families and tourists.  We love our community, especially our locals.
