If traditional therapy isn’t working, Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy (MeRT) may offer a literal spark of hope.
“MeRT uses magnetic pulses to gently stimulate underperforming areas of the brain,” says Dr. Jeralyn Brossfield, functional medicine specialist and founder of the Brain Treatment Center in Rancho Mirage. “It’s tailored to your brain’s unique electrical signals, using data to guide the stimulation.”
While similar in some ways to TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation), MeRT takes personalization a step further. It not only targets specific brainwave patterns but also adapts the frequency and timing of stimulation to match your individual neurophysiology. Studies suggest it may help with depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, concussions, dementia, and brain fog related to chemotherapy, long COVID, or burnout.
The process is noninvasive and typically involves daily sessions over the course of several weeks, with a brainwave scan (EEG) every 10 sessions to track how your brain responds and fine-tune treatment as needed.
Patients often describe the experience as relaxing — “like a gentle tap on the head,” says Brossfield — and many report improved mood, mental clarity, focus, and sleep quality.
