Listen to this story:

An official green and white street sign designating several blocks in downtown Palm Springs as the “Arenas District” was revealed in November 2022, right before the city’s Pride celebration. But this section of the neighborhood along and around Arenas Road had long been a beloved gathering place for the LQBTQ+ community.

It all started with Streetbar, the city’s first gay bar, in 1991. The LGBTQ+-friendly vibe spread to new and neighboring businesses, including more bars, nightclubs, restaurants, retail stores, and barbershops that cater to and welcome a diverse clientele.

The district also hosts annual community events where people spill into the streets, including a block party during Palm Springs Pride, the Big Gay BBQ, and Halloween Palm Springs in October.

All are welcome to the vibrant scene in the Arenas District, day or night, to celebrate who they are.
